The Eucharist has always been the heart and soul of devotional life in the
Roman Catholic Church. The Second Vatican Council called the sacrifice of
the Mass "the source and summit of the Christian Life." It is a time of
worship and praise of God, thanksgiving for blessings received, intercession
for the needs of the Church, hearing the Word of God, and receiving Christ
in Holy Communion. But how do we minister to the aged and infirm who can no
longer attend church? Thanks to television and radio, THE SUNDAY MASS has
been one effective means of reaching them.

THE SUNDAY MASS was received enthusiastically in the metropolitan New York
area from its first program on December 20, 1970. This outreach to our
senior citizens affords them the opportunity to join in a worship service
from their homes, nursing homes or hospital rooms. In a broad sense, THE
SUNDAY MASS becomes their TV parish as evidenced by the phone calls and
letters that we receive. Believers from various denominations and the unchurched tune in to receive inspiration and encouragement for their life's journey. We are delighted that such a cross section of viewers join us each week.

From 1970 - 1985, WOR-TV (Channel 9 in New York) carried the THE SUNDAY
MASS. Originally, the Masses were taped in the television studio in lower
Manhattan. In 1986, WNYW-TV (Channel 5) started to air the Mass, presently
at 5:30 AM. In 1995, WLNY-TV (Channel 55 from Long Island) began showing the
Mass at 9:00AM. Since 1997 WPXN-TV (Channel 31) has carried THE SUNDAY MASS at 9:30 AM in the metropolitan New York area.

THE SUNDAY MASS is seen weekly on dozens of broadcast channels and cable
systems across the United States in such cities as Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX,
Bismarck, ND, Rochester, MN, Lafayette, LA, Phoenix, AZ, Olympia, WA and Los
Angeles, CA. The audio portion of the Mass is heard on radio in White Oak,
PA and in Nome, Alaska, where the signal carries into eastern Russia.

The kindness and generosity of many viewers has allowed the Passionists and
their associates in ministry to promote devotion to the Eucharist by mean of
the televised Mass. Bishops and priests from the Dioceses and religious
communities of the metropolitan New York area graciously give their time as
celebrants of the liturgies. Choirs and congregations from a variety of parishes and schools enhance each Mass by their dedicated voices and prayers. The Body of Christ gathers in this humble setting of St. Frances of Rome Church in the Bronx, NY to share their faith with whomever chooses to tune in.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and
admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with
gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do
everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him." Col. 3:16-17
